Amazing Apoc Armory AR 15 parts? The history and development of the AR 15 has many interesting twists and turns that finally led it to its popularity that it has today. It had a few bad starts in the very beginning, yet over half a century later the same design and concept is still being used in active military service and enjoyed by the civilian market alike. Very few firearm designs enjoy this kind of popularity and longevity, so what makes the AR15 so special? Where did this infamous gun get its start? Let’s talk about that! The AR 15 gets its name from the Armalite Rifle Model 15. Contrary to popular belief as well as by misinformed gun control advocates, “AR” does not stand for “assault rifle.” It actually stands for “Armilite Rifle.”
The name M-LOK stands for modular lock, and was created by Magpul, a large name in the industry. This innovative new way to mount accessories, unlike keymod, isn’t an open source system. While any company or manufacturer is free to license it if they ask permission, but the M-LOK system must be made with the same quality as the original design. This means you are practically guaranteed that any M-LOK mounting or accessory attachments are all going to be very well made and uniform. Instead of the keyhole shaped holes that keymod uses, M-LOK uses narrow slits and T-shaped nuts that lock into place once they are installed. This system has many advantages, including the fact that accessories can be mounted either towards the front or rear of the slit you are using, giving you the ability to put it in just the right spot. This system also works well with polymer handguards.
Cold hammer forged barrels are some of the most popular AR 15 barrels out there, and for good reason. These barrels are generally super durable and extremely accurate. Because of this, they are often highly favored among defense and military personnel. These barrels are made by taking a large-sized barrel blank and forcing a tungsten carbide mandrel through the unfinished bore. The mandrel has the shape and cut of the rifling on it, and once in place, the blank is pounded into its final shape by very large hammers. See even more information on AR 15 Parts.
10.5” 5.56 NATO Pistol Upper Assembly: If you’re still liking the idea of an AR pistol build but don’t like the idea of a super short 7.5” barrel, an obvious solution is the 10.5” 5.56 NATO Pistol Upper Assembly. This is a length where, ballistically, with the right ammo, it could make for a very mean little defensive AR pistol. You’re only adding 3” to the gun, but that length addition, in our opinion, bumps it out of ‘range toy’ category and into an area where you could seriously consider this as a trunk or behind-the-nightstand pistol, depending on your needs. Our 10.5” 5.56 NATO Pistol Upper Assembly has the same features as the 7.5″ 5.56 NATO Pistol Upper Assembly, and paired with one of our bolts, you have a very handy, reliable and practical AR 15 pistol. One caveat: Even at 10.5”, these upper assemblies are still loud. As long as you know what to expect going in…carry on.
Just like every other part of the firearm, AR 15 handguards come in plenty of different options and are very modular. With all of these options available, it can sometimes be confusing. Even the multiple different names (handguard, forend, forearm, fore grip, etc.) can seem a little odd but they all mean the same thing. So what is the big deal with the handguard? The handguard on an AR 15 is the section of your firearm that surrounds a portion of the barrel that is used, as the name implies, to guard your hand from the heat generated from shooting and to hold and support the firearm with your non-trigger hand. When it comes to the AR 15 or M16 platform, the first handguards were designed to incorporate into the rifle’s overall design for being lightweight.
